Kashmir’s rich artistic heritage, renowned for its intricate handcrafts like Pashmina shawls, papier-mâché, wood carving, and hand-knotted carpets, faces a steep decline due to modernization, lack of patronage, and market competition from machine-made imitations. Traditional artisans, struggling with diminishing incomes and outdated techniques, often abandon their crafts for more stable livelihoods, leading to a generational loss of skills. Moreover, insufficient government support and limited global market access further threaten the survival of these crafts. Without urgent efforts to preserve and promote this cultural legacy, Kashmir’s centuries-old art forms risk fading into obscurity.
